Here’s what we’re looking for in an Office Pride commercial cleaning franchise owner
Every franchise probably wants you to feel like family, but not every franchise family is going to be a good fit. So how do you know whether the Office Pride commercial cleaning franchise is the right investment for you? You’re the only one who can truly decide that, and it will help if you know up front exactly what we’re looking for.
Who better to tell you what an Office Pride franchisee needs to succeed than some of our successful owners? We’ve asked many of them what they think it takes to be a good franchisee. Here’s what some of them said:
Veteran Julie McAdoo, who owns an Office Pride commercial cleaning franchise with her husband, Kevin, in Tampa, Florida: “I think it can be really great [for a veteran] from an owner perspective. For us, it was easy to transition into. In the Air Force, you had continuity books and checklists – there was a checklist for everything. To come into a franchise system like Office Pride, it’s very much the same thing. You’ve got to get trained on everything and learn how to work within the system. It’s very good for someone with a background in the military.”
John Baugus of North Georgia: “Self-motivation is very important. There will be a lot of times you feel like you are in the grind. Once you build your business to a certain point, you have so much going on. It can become a little overwhelming. I think it’s important that a franchisee be able to understand that this kind of thing is temporary. It takes self-motivation to work your way out of the grind as you grow and get big enough to hire management staff to support you. You can delegate many of the tasks you have to initially take on as a franchisee. I don’t know that it ever gets easy, but it definitely gets more manageable. … The franchise itself gives us such incredible guidance. At the same time, we have the freedom to build the business as we want to. Right now we are focused on small to medium-sized businesses. I like the autonomy that comes with it. I like the support we receive as Office Pride franchisees.”
Kevin Scott of Rancho Cucamonga, California: “The No. 1 quality is someone who is committed to running a business. You don’t necessarily need to know how to clean, and you don’t have to have all this business know-how, but you have to want to own your own business and have the drive to make it work.”
Wally Jenkins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: “Somebody that has a disciplined work ethic. Somebody who is tenacious and doesn’t give up easily. Somebody that has a good support system from family and friends. You need to be good with people. One of the biggest challenges is dealing with employees. There’s such a mix of people who apply for your positions. You have to focus on not only hiring the best people but having the discipline to train them.”
Doug Snell, who owns an Office Pride with his wife, Chelana, in Springfield, Illinois. The couple won Office Pride’s 2013 Customer Satisfaction Award: “One of the criteria when my wife and I talked about owning our own franchise was that they base their principles on Biblical principles. That narrowed the field down quite a bit. We just kind of figured that if that’s the way we wanted to live our life, that it should include all aspects of our life, from what we did for work to how we raise our kids.”
